In 1956, a gallon on gas was only 19.9 cents when George Dodd took over the Texaco station that would form the beginnings of the family business. Don't part with any of your money until you do the following:
- Acquire and verify the seller's address, phone number and e-mail address. Match the address to the title to the RV, and if they don't match, be sure you know why. Also, match the down payment address to the verified seller's address. Always question if they are different.
- Get a detailed statement from the seller that specifies whether the RV is being sold to you with a warranty or "as is". This can be in addition to the receipt, or included on the receipt.
- Think seriously about having a professional inspection performed by a qualified RV mechanic on any vehicle you plan to purchase. While not all existing defects are identifiable 100% of the time, an inspection can prevent most problems and provide you with peace of mind.
- Know what your state requires to transfer the title to the RV from the seller to a buyer, and fulfill all requirements. This information can usually be found from your local Division of Motor Vehicles.
- Consider using an escrow service to smooth the transition of goods between you and the seller. They will hold your payment until you receive the RV you purchased. Be sure to find a reputable escrow service, such as Escrow.com before turning over any money or personal information. Note that many internet scams involve fake escrow companies.
